SMS Alert Program

DayTap is a daily safety check-in app. This page describes our SMS messaging program, how recipients opt in, and how they can opt out.

📋 Program Overview

Program Name DayTap Guardian SMS Alerts
Website daytap.app
Program Description DayTap is a safety app for people who live alone. Users check in daily by tapping "I'm OK." If a user misses their check-in window, their designated emergency contacts ("guardians") are automatically notified. This SMS program delivers verification messages, missed check-in alerts, and all-clear confirmations to guardians via text message.
Message Types 1. Verification message — Sent once when a guardian is added. Contains a link to confirm consent before any alerts are delivered.
2. Missed check-in alert — Sent when the person they are watching over has not checked in within their configured window (1–7 days).
3. All-clear confirmation — Sent when the person checks back in after an alert was sent.
Message Frequency Varies. Up to 5 alert messages per enrollee within any 7-day rolling window, plus corresponding all-clear messages. Typical usage is fewer than 5 messages per month.

📲 Call to Action & Opt-In Flow

SMS recipients (guardians) are added through the DayTap iOS app by the person they are watching over. DayTap uses a double opt-in process — guardians must verify their phone number before any alert messages are delivered.

1
Enrollee adds a guardian in the app The DayTap user enters their guardian's name, email address, and optionally a US/Canadian phone number. They enable SMS notifications for that guardian using a toggle switch.
2
Guardian receives a verification SMS A single verification SMS is sent to the guardian's phone number containing a unique link. This is the only message sent before consent is confirmed. The message identifies DayTap, names the enrollee, and includes opt-out instructions.
3
Guardian taps the link and provides explicit SMS consent The guardian taps the verification link and lands on the DayTap website. Before their number is confirmed, they must actively check a consent checkbox (unchecked by default). If the guardian ignores or declines, they receive no further messages. Verification links expire after 7 days. See the phone mockup below for the exact consent language.
4
Guardian is enrolled for SMS alerts Only after the guardian checks the consent checkbox and confirms will they receive alert and all-clear messages. They can opt out at any time by replying STOP.

📱 In-App Consent Mechanism

The opt-in process originates from the DayTap iOS app. Below is the "Add Guardian" screen where the user adds their emergency contact, enters a phone number, and enables SMS notifications.

Guardian Verification & SMS Consent

When the guardian taps the verification link from their SMS, they land on this page. They must actively check the consent checkbox (unchecked by default) before their phone number is confirmed for alerts.
